Works by recipients of arts grants go on exhibit in Goa

IN THE SHADOWS

The art exhibition, ‘Shadow Script’, under the Goa Open Arts 5th edition of the Catalyst and Engage Artist Grants, presents the work of six artists and a studio at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts, Altinho, Panjim. It will remain open till May 3, 2025 (10 am to 6.30 pm).

DIVYESH UNDAVIYA

Divyesh Undaviya’s work explores the transition between places -- physically, emotionally and metaphorically. His drawings depict landscapes in flux — tunnels, forests and seascapes dissolving into uncertainty.

KIRAN TAMBOSKAR

Kiran Tamboskar, through this experiential space, ‘symbiosis’ which is illuminated, emphasises the interconnectedness between the individual and the environment.

PRAGYA BHAGAT

Pragya Bhagat’s multi-media installation unpacks the histories of women involved in magical and ritualistic practices in India, addressing themes of gender, sexuality and power.

SHILPA MAYENKAR NAIK

Shilpa Mayenkar Naik’s ceramic garlands of ovala/vovla flowers are about memory and nostalgia. The heady scent of real flowers in the room highlights the intrinsic connection people have with flowers. These flowers are inspired by the flight of starling birds.

SUMIT NAIK

Sumit Naik does highly detailed charcoal drawings where he unfold narratives of grief, remembrance and acceptance, expressed through intricate drawings.

SHYAM PAHAPALKAR

Shyam Pahapalkar’s work examines the fragile relationship between man and nature through natural material and found objects. His works speaks about Goa’s architectural heritage, maritime past, and the tension between preservation and consumption.

STUDIO BUTTON

Siolim-based animation studio, Studio Button, led by Katerina Kubareva, along with Nataliia Marynenko received the Engage Grant for community art practices. The studio, which used art as therapy, showcased a project developed with children from Isha Kripa Sadan.
