Some of the popular estuaries where these mangroves are found in Goa are Mandovi, Chorao, Zuari, Chapora, Terekhol, Sal, Talpona, Galgibaga, Kumbharjua Canal...
Mangroves play an important role in the prevention of soil erosion and stabilization of the coastline and beaches.
They protect the hinterland from cyclonic storms and tidal surges.
They are home to several species of bird and animals.
In Goa, if you want to experience a mangrove ecosystem, just take a kayak and go on a mangrove trail with one of many organizations like Terra Conscious. | PICTURE COURTESY: Rohan Fernandes.
Or go bird-watching on Chorao island in Goa.
