HONOURING COURGAE

Every year during Shigmo, Bicholkars (Bicholim villagers) perform Ghode Modni to honour the bravery of the warriors who triumphantly returned home during the Holi festivities.

WHAT'S GHODE MODNI?

In the local language, ghode refers to horses and modni means gyrations and dance-like movements, hence the word Ghode Modni.

DRESSED FOR THE OCCASION

The complete costume ensemble includes a well-decorated wooden horse's face that is attached to the body in front.

FLORAL HEADGEAR

A Ghode Modni participant gets a turban adorned with local flowers that are commonly found in Goa during the summer season.

MARK OF RESPECT

The dancers go from one temple to another within the village, displaying reverence to the deities and seeking their blessings.

THE ATTIRE

The Ghode Modni attire. Besides this, it also includes ghungroos (anklets with bells), which the barefoot dancers wear on their legs.
