NANDA LAKE

The Nanda lake in Curchorem in the South is the only Ramsar site in Goa. The Ramsar convention that came into force in 1975 in Iran aims to halt the worldwide loss of wetlands and conserve them.

BONDVOL LAKE

This is a relatively lesser known natural reservoir in Santa Cruz village in Tiswadi which is 100 years old. It was mysteriously drained of all its water in 2023.

SARZORA LAKE

Located in Sarzora village of South Goa, this lake, covering an expanse of 16.9284 hectares, is surrounded by lush green hills. It is situated around 9 kms from Margao.

XELDEM LAKE

This lake is situated in Quepem taluka in South Goa. Covering an area of 0.0735 hectares, it was one of the first three lakes to be declared as a wetland in 2021.

SAVE WETLANDS

Wetlands are very important for a small state like Goa as these are home to some of the fish habitat and also provide essential food for plants and and wildlife.

FOR A GREENER FUTURE

On the eve of World Wetlands Day 2024, India has increased its tally of Ramsar sites (wetlands of international importance) to 80 from existing 75. In Goa, 15 wetlands are notified and 29 more are in draft stage.
