Pomp and fervour as Panjim Church celebrates the feast of the Nativity of Mary

THE FEAST DAY

The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated with great pomp in all parishes of Goa on September 8, 2023.

FESTIVE FERVOUR

The nine days of novenas were followed by the feast day, which was celebrated with masses and ladinhas (litanies) at crosses and statues of Our Lady across the state.

PANJIM CHURCH

In the Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim (better known as Panjim Church) the festivities began with the morning mass. However, the main mass was celebrated in the evening, and included a procession of parishioners offering flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

FLORAL OFFERINGS

All kinds of flowers, both, purchased as well as from home gardens, were offered by children and devotees to Mother Mary as they sought her blessings on this occasion.

IN VELANKANNI

The feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni was also celebrated on the same day in the town of Velankanni, in Tamil Nadu.

During the mass, the choir sung traditional hymns to Our Lady.
