In its recent council meeting, the Corporation of the City of Panaji decided to give a new lease of life to all its gardens, including the iconic Mermaid Garden opposite Tourist Residency. According to the Panjim mayor, Rs six crore will be sanctioned to spruce up all the gardens maintained by the Corporation. | All Pics by Franky Gracias
The Mermaid Garden on the busy D B Marg has become a favourite hideout for drunkards who frequent the place in the night.
The garden has also become a resting place for migrants.
The Garcia de Orta, which lies in the heart of the city, is among the few gardens where some maintenance is seen on a daily basis.
The Francisco Luis Gomes garden in Campal, though maintained, needs a spruce up.
The Menezes Braganza garden, opposite the North Goa Collectorate, is another one which is lying in a neglected condition.
