At Reis Magos in Verem, North Goa, the feast of the Three Kings is celebrated with great pomp and tradition on January 6 every year.

The celebrations take place at the scenic Reis Magos Church, built in 1555, which is adorned with lights and colourful streamers for the occasion.

WHAT'S IN A NAME

Interestingly, the name of the village, Reis Magos, is derived from the Portuguese term for the biblical three wise men or kings.

NATIVITY SCENES

Also known as the Epiphany, this feast marks the visit of the Three Kings to the babe Jesus in Bethlehem, in the Middle East.

WE THREE KINGS

Three men from the village, dressed in Arab attire, and carrying gifts of 'gold, frankincense and myrrh', represent the biblical three kings, and are the highlight of the occasion.

FESTIVE PROCESSION

A festive procession, consisting of parishioners, takes a brief walk around the church, and is joined by the three kings.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

As in previous years, devotees of all ages attended the feast mass and participated in the procession, too.
