On Thursday morning, actor-director Ajay Devgn took to social media to share a photo of him, along with actress Shriya Saran and director Abhishek Pathk in a house, and captioned the picture ‘Can Vijay protect his family again? #Drishyam2 shoot begins’.

The tweet was enough for his fans, who have been eagerly waiting for the sequel of Drishyam, a Bollywood remake of the 2013-Malayalam film with the same name. The shooting of the sequel commenced in Mumbai, and will be shot extensively in Goa in the coming months.

Drishyam 1 was earlier shot in Goa at various locations like Ucassaim, Divar, Panaji, etc, and once again, the film will be shot at various locations in the state.

This house in North Goa was the venue for one of the scenes from 'Drishyam 1'

Excited to play the role of Vijay Salgaonkar for the second time in the upcoming sequel, the 52-year-old Devgn, said, “Drishyam was loved and it's a legend. Vijay is a multi-dimensional character and he creates an engaging narrative onscreen. Abhishek Pathak (director) has a fresh vision for this film.”

He expressed his eagerness to work on Part 2 of the film Drishyam and said “I’m keenly looking forward to Part 2, filling in the large shoes of the earlier film, with people investing in the mystery and the characters.”

Earlier, the prequel was directed by Nishikant Kamat, and now, the franchise will be directed by Abhishek Pathak, who worked on the film Ujada Chaman, and also produced films such as Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Raid. "It is a challenge, but also an opportunity to work along with Ajay Devgn, who is such a powerhouse of talent. It is a morale-booster for any creative person; his unique influence is undoubtedly the most enriching experience for me, personally,” Pathak added.

Pathak believes that the process of filming this sequel will be exciting as the story will be retold from his own perspective and vision by divergent visuals in the most justified, yet extraordinary, way. “The setting and the mood of the film uplifts the very essence of the crux, making it gripping from the very beginning,” he said.

The sequel will also feature the star cast of the first film -- Tabu, Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and co-produced by Sanjeev Joshi, Shiv Chanana and Aditya Chowksey.

T-Series plans on taking the sequel a ‘notch higher’ than the first Drishyam. Bhushan Kumar of T-Series said, “Ajay Devgn's power-packed performance and prowess in Drishyam captivated the audiences. Retaining the zest, we are delighted to begin filming its sequel that will take this franchise a notch higher as the audiences will witness double suspense, double mystery, double drama."
