'Long live tradition' say Saxtikars at the Carnival float parade in Margao
Sunday, February 27, 2022, was the second day of the Carnival celebrations in Goa, and the float parade was held in Margao, with tableaux showcasing Goa's rich culture and heritage.
The chief guest for the function was Padma Shri awardee, Brahmanand Shankhwalkar.
Around 70 floats participated at the Margao Carnival parade, which was declared open by King Momo for Carnival 2022, Emeliano P Dias.
Revellers at the parade got to witness Goa's tradition and culture through the floats, dances and the acts, put together by the participants.
Kunbi dancers also danced to the beats of a traditional musical instrument, the 'ghumot'.

Goa's community of potters were also the highlight of one of the floats, which had several items, such as utensils, vases and other terracotta items made by potters, on display.
Another float exhibited the importance of the wood mason’s community in Goa and how they carried out their traditional occupation. This float showcased how wood was used to build homes and to make a variety of implements.

The farmer and his best friend also walked down the parade route. Depicting one of the most important and popular occupations of Goa -- farming. The float highlighted the importance of farmers.

Social issues such as poaching of frogs, turtles and other animals were also prominently highlighted during the parade. Goencho Ekvott also put up a float that displayed a message 'Stop hill cutting and save Mopa'.

Floats spreading awareness about various social and environmental issues were also part of the parade.
