Potters Fest Goa 2021: Potters from all over India descend on Goa

The Bhoomi pottery supported by Goa tourism is holding the first edition of Potters fest Goa 2011 from November 12 to 14 at the Patio, Arpora.

The festival, "Potters Fest Goa 2021" is one of its kind festival where 32 potters from all over India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bhopal, Indore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Puducherry, Agra, and Pune - have descended to showcase handmade pottery and ceramic products for the first time in Goa.

Bipasha Sen Gupta, a sculptor and event's curator, brought the pottery community together and providing an opportunity for Goans to learn the crafts.

"This event is just not a market, but a set up for people to meet and learn more about pottery. This kind of event is not done before in Goa and I wanted to give a platform, where people across the country come together and show their work of art," Bipasha Gupta told Gomantak Times.

From big functional ware to tableware to sculptures to modern pottery, miniatures, and even jewellery products made of terracotta, clay, porcelain, and ceramics, these products are hand-built and have used wheel techniques utilising different kinds of clay, glazes, and fire.

The festival is also a culmination of artists who quit their high paying job to pursue a career in potter. Their love for pottery binds them all together.

Amar Shet is one such artist. He wanted to revive the art form started by his grandfather 100 years back. He now lives in Mayem and works with terracotta.

"Each art work over here reflects different story and a fest like this helps to interact, learn and know more about what is offered around our country", said Rekha Shipurkar, participant from Delhi.
