Be the change by volunteering at #SeaTheChange 2023

The sound of waves crashing against the shores and salty smell of the sea are some memories we have of holidaying on a beach. Away from the daily humdrum of life, for many the coasts provide a sense of relief, a place where they connect with themselves.

It goes without saying Goa’s beaches are an integral part of the tourism sector and the ever-increasing footfalls has put an extra burden on the coastal ecosystem.

One of the major concerns has been the different kinds of garbage, including plastic, that is threatening our fragile shoreline with some of the thrash pulled in by the waves during the high tide.

At a time when tourism remains the sole bread earner of many in Goa, it becomes our duty to safeguard coastal resources and to maintain cleanliness along the coast.

This Saturday, September 16, 2023, on the occasion of International Coastal Clean-up Day, the Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) will conduct a clean-up drive, #SeaTheChange 2023.

GSAI actively participates in raising issues faced by the seamen community of Goa but at its core it also intends to give back to the community at large. As a group, it has taken it upon itself to promote environmental friendly activities that help preserve mother nature.

This clean-up is one such initiative that is being supported by the Village Panchayat of Varca. It is scheduled to take place at the Varca (Pedda) beach at around 10 am. For more details, those interested can get in touch with GSAI on 9404251110 or info@goanseamen.com.

GSAI has urged people to join in the efforts to help mitigate trash mismanagement challenges and do a bit to strengthen climate action efforts.
