The Cinephile Film Club of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), along with Sachin Chatte, will screen the Japanese film, Seven Samurai, directed by Akira (and starring Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Keiko Tsushima) on June 15, 2023 at Maquinez Palace, Panjim. The film has English subtitles and has a duration of 3 hrs, 15 mins.
Membership to the film club is also open.
Described by critics as one of the greatest films of all time, the 1954 Japanese film is about a veteran samurai who is hired to protect the farmers of an impoverished Japanese village, who are exploited by bandits.
The movie made a major star of Mifune Toshiro, who played the seventh samurai. In 1960, Seven Samurai was remade into an American western, The Magnificent Seven, which ended up being acclaimed as one of the greatest films of the Western genre.
