Five accused who attacked policemen surrender

MARGAO: Five youths who had allegedly attacked policemen at Maddicotto-Cuncolim surrendered before the Cuncolim police station on Wednesday.

The accused identified as Saiesh Dessai, 24 of Fondubhat-Cuncolim; Sandeep Dessai, 23 and Sapnesh Dessai, 28, both from Gotnem-Cuncolim; Santosh Naik, 28 of Fatorpa and Shubham Borkar, 24 of Maddicotoo-Cuncolim before PSI Aditya Naik Gaonkar.

The police had earlier arrested Mayur Desai and Shaikh Abdul Razak and they have been remanded in three days police custody by the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Margao.

With this, the police have arrested all the seven assailants who allegedly assaulted four policemen on early Tuesday morning.

The police are now in the process of recovering weapons and two-wheelers belonging to the accused.

A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered against the seven accused for forming unlawful assembly, obstructing government servants from discharging duties, damaging the government property and causing injuries.

According to the police, three accused including Sapnesh, Saiesh and Shubham were involved in cases of assault in the past and their records were being checked.

Three policemen were injured after they were attacked by a group of seven youth, who were under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred when the police told them to stop drinking alcohol in public place. The accused also damaged police vehicle.
