Former Indian footballer Alvito D'Cunha joins Congress

D’Cunha hails from Sanvordem and is counted among the best footballers produced by India.

Former India midfielder and East Bengal left-winger Alvito D’Cunha on Monday joined Congress in the presence of Congress State President Girish Chodankar, Working President Alexei Sequeira, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, party functionary Elvis Gomes and others.

We will do development in the field of football under the guidance of Alvito D’Cunha. His addition to the Congress party will help us to bring overall development of Football, said Gomes, who is also a former football administrator in Goa .

D’Cunha hails from Sanvordem and is counted among the best footballers produced by India. In his 17-year professional football career, D’Cunha has played for clubs like Salgaocar Sports Club and East Bengal. While playing for Salgaocar SC, D’Cunha had won all major trophies including National Football League.

The left-footed D'Cunha also featured in 232 club games in his career out of which 159 were played donning the East Bengal jersey for which the Goa-born footballer scored 23 goals. He was the first Goan footballer to taste real success in Kolkata.
