Morjim fishermen on Monday expressed their anger as the Goa government has not paid the compensation after damages caused to their property by the Tauktae cyclone.
About 60 fishermen families in the coastal areas of Vithaldas Wada and Tembwada are seeking compensation after Cyclonic storm Tauktae had hit the coastal state in mid-may this year, causing heavy damage to the property of fishermen. The storm caused severe damage to the fishing equipment of the fishermen's huts and some boats were even damaged.
The local fishermen are facing a double whammy as they don't have a safe place for their boats, huts or a shed to store materials. Moreover, the business of local fishermen in the area is in jeopardy as large trawlers are fishing near the beach.
The government had also failed to build a jetty for these fishermen.
Local fishermen have demanded that the government should release compensation as soon as possible.
