Velsao-Pale-Issorcim gram sabha members have decided to wait to see what the High Court decides on their two petitions against the double tracking and if need be approach the Supreme Court of India.

The members did a show of hands seconding the decision to go to the apex court against the double-tracking project.

Villagers are up in arms against the project and at the gram sabha meeting on Sunday morning their anger was palpable.

Various issues were discussed at the meeting, but the double tracking and development of Lazaro Souza playground held centre stage.

Gram sabha member Orville Dourado Rodrigues and founder member of Goencho Ekvott explained to the gathering their fight against the project.

The gram sabha discussed at length the impact of the project on the villagers and after much discussion, members decided to see how the matter pans out in the High Court and later approach the Supreme Court of India.

While discussing the Lazaro Souza playground, locals pointed out its sorry state and impressed upon the need for attention from the authorities concerned.

Gram sabha member Roquezinho D’souza said he would use the good offices of the Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas to carry out the renovation work of the playground.

It was also agreed during the meeting that priority should be given to the local youth to use this playground once it is renovated.
