Sudhakar Naik, 63, an accused in the Assami girl rape case at Quepem in June this year, was released on Thursday, November 26, on bail by Session Court in South Goa.
The other accused, Shambunath Singh, 32, who allegedly brought the 25-year old girl to Goa from Assam is still in judicial custody.
In July this year, Singh lured the victim to Goa on the pretext of securing her a job. After reaching Goa, she was taken to Singh's sister's apartment, around 1 km from Quepem town.
On 28 July, Singh invited his friend Naik over to the apartment to have liquor. After drinking, the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by the two.
The victim managed to escape the flat after which she informed the police. Naik and Singh were arrested and charged under Secttions 376(rape) and 343(illegal confinement).
The main accused, Singh, had moved a bail application before the District and Sessions Court, Margao back in September which was rejected by the court's judge.
