Civil Supplies Department inspects Fair Price ration shop, demands explanation for alleged black marketing

The Mormugao Civil Supplies Department in-charge conducted an inspection and issued a notice to the Fair Price Shop owners in Mormugao to explain the malpractice of food grain black marketing.

After a video shot by a Mormugao-based NGO, Goa First went viral, where a person was seen taking three sacks of grains on the bike from fair price shop near Busy Bee High School, Vasco, the matter became a controversial issue.

Inspector of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, claimed that after the issue was brought to their attention in the local media, they conducted an inspection and issued a notice to the shop owner Ankush Redkar, requesting an explanation within 24 hours.

Parshuram Sonulekar, President of Goa First NGO, indicated that they think the civil supply department, in collusion with fair pricing shops all over Goa, is engaging in similar malpractices.

The supply department made them return the sacks to the individual who had supplied it to them. The shopkeeper who had given him sacks without a ration card. When questioned this time, he admitted of to buying grains from someone else's ration card. When asked to provide evidence, however, it was revealed that he has lied.

As a result, Goa first urges strict actions towards the fair price shop, in order to serve as a warning to others who engage in similar black marketing supplies.

The government enforced fair price/ration shops to assist the poor and fulfil their basic needs.
