After a four-year injury led hiatus, veteran off-spinner Amit Yadav has appealed to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) to reconsider his selection for the team. According to the GCA secretary Vipul Phadke, Amit Yadav’s selection depends on his fitness.

Phadke feels Amit needs to complete fitness tests like the Yo-Yo test and regain the trust of coach K. S. Bhaskar Pillai to be part of the team. The injury didn’t allow Amit to perform at the best of his abilities, which led to his departure from the team.

One of Goa’s finest

Amit originally hails from Delhi but has played for Goa from the junior level. He made his Ranji Trophy debut on November 03, 2009, against Vidharba. Since then he has played 37 matches while taking 123 wickets for Goa. He is only the second spinner and the fourth bowler from Goa to take over 100 wickets in the Ranji trophy. Amit played his last Ranji Trophy match against Punjab in 2017 before getting injured.

The Goa Cricket Association is looking for a new medium pacer as a visiting player for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Several players have applied for the role, with Mumbai's Shubham Ranjane, Delhi's Subodh Bhati, Maharashtra's Samad Fallah and Vidarbha's Shrikant Wagh being the top applicants.

Samad Fallah has been among the best medium pacers in the tournament, but his age may be a roadblock for this opportunity. But for the other candidate, fitness will be the paramount parameter for selection, according to coach B.S. Pillai.
