With a surge in COVID-19 cases, ATK Mohan Bagan's match against Bangalore FC, which was scheduled to happen at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Saturday, January 5, has been postponed after Banglore FC's player found Covid positive.
Another match of the eighth season of Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament was announced postponed due to increasing number of covid cases.
"Every match is evaluated on a number of factors, including the ability of the club to field a team, the intensity of the Covid-19 in the club, the safe preparation for the match and the readiness of the club members to play. Security is our priority and the league and the club will keep an eye on the situation," said the ISL authorities
This is ATK Mohan Bagan's second match to be postponed due to covid outbreak. It was only last Saturday that Mohan Bagan match against Odisha FC had to be postponed after an unnamed player reported positive for Covid-19.
The ISL tournament is currently being played in a bio-secure bubble at three stadiums in Goa, with 59 matches completed since November 19 last year.
ATK Mohun Bagan last played in the ISL tournament on January 5. Bangalore's last match of the tournament was on January 10.
At present, ATK Mohan Bagan has 15 points from 9 matches, while Bangalore FC has 13 points from 11 matches.
Players of other teams including FC Goa, Bengaluru FC and Odisha FC have also contracted the coronavirus, while SC East Bengal too isolated themselves after their hotel staff inside the bio bubble found positive.
