A one-of-a-kind spiritual event, the decennial Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier began on November 21, 2024 in Old Goa with the ceremonial inauguration.
The inaugural of the XVIII Exposition of the Sacred Relics featured a Eucharistic celebration, a solemn procession with the sacred relics on a beautifully decorated e-carriage, a human chain of over 1,500 persons, a brass band with several musical performances, and deeply spiritual experiences, offering devotees an enriching journey of faith and devotion.
The Spain-born saint, St Francis Xavier, left an indelible mark on the lives of countless souls. Honouring his legacy, the inaugural commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, led by Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi, who guided the devotees in prayer during this spiritual event.
The choir was conducted by Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and versatile mestre, Fr Romeo Monteiro, and his ensemble.
The sacred relics of the saint were transported in a beautifully designed e-carriage, which went in a procession from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to Se Cathedral, where the relics have been kept for veneration for next 45 days.
A human chain comprising youth, members of the Catholic faith, over 500 priests and other members of the Catholic faith along with laypersons participated in this sacred event.
A brass band followed the relics, filling the air with music that deepened the sense of spirituality and devotion for the devotees and attendees.
On the occasion, noted photographer and author, Pantaleao Fernandes, released his book, Stories in Silver, which is based on the silver casket bearing the relics of St Francis Xavier, and the 32 intricate silver plates adorning it.
The sacred relics were then placed in Se Cathedral, accompanied by rituals and veneration. Following this, the exposition was opened to the public, commencing in full swing from today.
