In this age of hustle and stress, it’s hard to tell when you need to slow down. Sometimes our bodies do it for us by just shutting down and letting us know we must take time for ourselves.
This would be the best time to immerse yourself in the goodness of ayurveda at Oorja Wellness Centre, located in Margao and Panjim. Here you can avail of a large range of treatments to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul and promote your overall health and wellbeing.
Dr Sneha and Dr Pranav Bhagwat conceptualised Oorja, starting off with a small clinic named Nagarjuna. The directors of the enterprise are Dr Sneha Bhagwat, Tejashri Pai and Dr Pranav Bhagwat. Soon they realised that more people wanted to return to their traditional Indian roots.
Dr Sneha says, “The Indian system of medicine was healing many in a way that the problems were resolved from the root cause, with little to no side effects from the treatments in ayurveda and yoga. Besides this, people saw a lot of health benefits as far as chronic disorders or even any minor issues were concerned.”

BEST INDIAN SYSTEM OF MEDICINE
This is when they decided to move into a bigger place, which is how Oorja Wellness Centre came into being. The organisation was established in 2014. Besides the centres in Margao and Panjim, Oorja is also located abroad – at St Petersburg in Moscow and in Dubai.
The motto and vision of Oorja Wellness Centre is “Provide solutions to any illness, to every single individual in need”. The ayurveda-inspired healthcare caters to the modern lifestyle, carries out innovative practices, uses yoga and diet modification, and provides panchakarma treatments for non-communicable and degenerative disorders.
“We are the only NABH accredited ayurveda and yoga centre in Goa, the highest authority of Quality Council of India, a Govt of India undertaking, which ensures patient safety, treatment authenticity and overall experience,” says Dr Sneha.

ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
From pharmacies, to yoga facilities, to treatments – the Oorja Wellness Centre has all under one roof.
“We have all the diagnostics required in today’s time to understand and evaluate any form of disease. We have different types of modern diagnostic tools, a complete modern laboratory that performs blood and other tests," informs Dr Pranav Bhagwat.
He continues,"We have a therapy centre, which is very much equipped with all the necessary equipment and instruments required to conduct therapies on the patients.”
The team believes that a holistic treatment is key, and to facilitate it, they have a full-fledged yoga court which accommodates around 30 students at a time. This area provides yoga therapy not only to chronic patients but also for regular wellbeing and rejuvenation.
“We also have a homestay facility in an Indo-Portuguese house, which has a completely wonderful ambience. The architecture of the rooms and the washrooms is designed in such a manner that they are senior citizen and patient friendly,” says Dr Sneha.
The centre is also equipped with ayurveda and herbal pharmacies with over 5,000 medicines.
Dr Sneha adds, “Whenever we recommend patients to have a form of dietary modulation, we make it available in form of millet, cooking oils and homemade masala, which is sold at our pharmacy.”
They also equip their pharmacy with totally organic personal care products such as soaps, shampoos and creams.
Dr Pranav says, “We offer various panchakarma treatments based on Indian science - Shirodhara, Nasyam, Abhyangam, Basti, Potli massages, leech therapy and Agnikarma. Apart from this, we provide a healing journey through our customised yoga sessions for patients.”

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS
Once the patients visit the centre, the doctors provide consultation and understand patients’ requirements, check whether the necessary analysis is done, and then, prakruti parikshan is done, that is understanding the constitution of the body.
If the person has visited for any particular illness, the doctors accordingly design and personalise therapy, medicines, yoga and all the modifications and modalities that are required for the treatment of that particular illness.
“If it is for wellness, we understand which dosha is aggravated and accordingly plan a panchakarma, which in simple language is known as ‘detox’,” says Dr Sneha.
She adds, “The aim here is to eliminate the root cause of the disease, followed by rejuvenation therapy or modality, which is done so that there is no recurrence of the illness.” Over the years we have gained success in proving the worth of ayurveda in eradicating diseases that could not be cured elsewhere.
The typical duration of a treatment session is personalised according to each patient’s illness. Overall treatments last from 30 mins to 1 hour. Doctors after examining the patients recommend the number of sessions that are required per treatment.
An individual is, on average, recommended 7 sessions along with a proper diet of satvik aahar. Their consultation charges start from Rs 450, and the treatment cost varies depending on the type and number of treatments required, which range from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000. They have tied-up with around 15 insurance companies from whom patients can claim insurance.
