Online transactions saving money and time
The availability of online facilities at Sales Tax, Stamps and Registration department has given a major respite to citizens who otherwise had to spend a lot to time to get their work done. To promote cashless transactions, these departments are also accepting debit/credit cards along with online payment modes. Thanks to the complete facelift given to these departments, revenue generation has also gone up. Along with this, the department is also saving on paper, printing and manpower   Maharashtra government earns maximum revenue from the Sales Tax Department followed by Stamps and Registration Department. The online facilities introduced by these departments is helping citizens save their time and money. In recent years, senior authorities of these departments have taken efforts to upgrade the working.  This has also made the system convenient and transparent. When people visit the registrar office, they can see the change and the facelift that it has been given. This office, which has got a corporate look, carries out all its work online. Due to this, the work of the citizens is no more dependent on the moods of the authorities. The work of registration has also become easier after project ‘Sarita.’  While speaking to Sakal Media Group, Dr Ramaswami N, Inspector General of Registration, said that all works can now be completed within 30 minutes. The department is now encouraging e-registration. Ramaswami said that this is being carried out using Adhar number and citizens can do registrations sitting at home. He added that e-registration can be carried out for new flat registration and rent agreement as well. With this, every month, there are over 18,000 registrations. This is saving time, money and people’s efforts and is also helping the department save on paper, printing and manpower. In the past one and a half year, Rs 100 crore has been saved. A call centre has also been started to help citizens get information about the new registration procedure among other things. This centre operates from 7 am to 9 pm and gets close to 350 to 400 calls daily. The centre notes down suggestions and complaints from the citizens. At present, almost all charges for document registration are being accepted online apart from charges for scanning and checking of documents. But now provision is being made to pay these charges using debit or credit card. With this, the department will go cashless, said Ramaswami.  Overall, with transparency introduced, the number of registrations are growing and will prevent wrongdoings. Also, along with Pune, revenue is increasing everywhere.
