Cong alleges BJP manipulating process of ZP elections

"Actually the ZP election should have been declared and all the process should have been done by the State Election Commission. But, presently it looks like the election is conducted by the BJP government. According to the law election process should handle by the Election Commission", said   Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar. 

MARGAO: Alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is engaged in manipulating the process of zilla panchayat elections, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar warned that they will file a petition in the court and cancel the process of ZP elections if BJP continued doing the same.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Girish asked the government to postpone ZP elections by 45 days. He is also alleged that the file pertaining to ZP election is not yet sent to the State Election Commission but it is in the BJP head office.
"Actually the ZP election should have been declared and all the process should have been done by the State Election Commission. But, presently it looks like the election is conducted by the BJP government. According to the law election process should handle by the Election Commission", he stated.
Girish further said that according to his sources, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant did not send the ZP election file to the Election Commission, instead of that the file is with the BJP and all the BJP leaders are engaged in manipulating the process and especially the process pertaining to reservation of wards.
"We will not tolerate the manipulation in the ZP election. The NGO named Mango Foundation has already filed the petition in the court with regard to the same. We are just waiting for the time to file another petition and urging the court to cancel the process of ZP election", he added.
He also said that there is no harm if the ZP election is postponed for 45 days. The Congress party is ready to support. "Congress party will fight the ZP election on the party line and there is already amendment is done with regard to the same. Where ever there is a weakness in the party we will support the Independent candidates. Our sole aim is to defeat the BJP in the next ZP election", said Girish.
