Political activists, villagers, friends and family members of a 19-year-old woman, who was found dead on Calangute beach on August 12, gathered in hundreds on Monday at North Goa’s Aldona to undertake a candlelight procession demanding justice for the woman.

While Goa police have ruled out the sexual assault or violence following the post-mortem report that indicated women died due to drowning, family members along with people who turned in Aldona have demanded a thorough investigation and asked explanations as to why her body was found semi-naked.

According to the police, the woman, a resident of North Goa, had gone missing after her father dropped her at the Mapusa bus stand. Later on August 12, Police was informed about a body by a passerby in the morning

Activists Sabina Martins, Aishwarya Salgaonkar, former MLA Kiran Kandolkar, Congress leader Rajendra Korgaonkar from Kalangut and AAP's Rahul Mhambare were present in the demonstration.

People who participated in the demonstration also accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his government of being “irresponsible” and failing to check the rising crimes against women.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sawant on Monday said that the investigation in the case was progressing and the Mapusa police station, officers of the Goa Police Crime Branch would also weigh in on the investigation.
