Driver killed, four injured in accident at Verna

One person was killed and four others were injured when the tourist taxi in which they were travelling collided against an oncoming truck at Verna on Sunday morning.

VASCO: One person was killed and four others were injured when the tourist taxi in which they were travelling collided against an oncoming truck at Verna on Sunday morning.

The Verna police gave the name of the victim as Russel Fernandes, 22, a resident of Taleigao.

The accident occurred when Russel along with his friends were proceeding in a tourist taxi from Margao to Verna while, the truck having Maharashtra registration number was coming in the opposite direction. On reaching near Verna bypass road, the taxi collided against the truck. With the impact Russel Fernandes died on the spot while four other occupants in the car suffered grievous injuries.

All the injured have been admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim where they are undergoing treatment.

Verna police conducted the panchanama and have registered an accident case.
