HC issues notice to Goa government on PIL seeking ST reservation in Assembly seats

The High Court on Monday sought a response from the Goa government on a plea seeking reservation of 12 per cent of seats for members of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

A Goa Bench of Bombay High Court issued notices and listed the case for the next hearing on October 27.

The order was passed on a petition filed by Independent MLA from Sanguem, Prasad Gaonkar.

The leaders of the ST community have suggested the constituencies Sanguem, Quepem, Nuvem, and Priol having a sizable population of ST can be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes population.
