BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant warned the people against seeing dreams of earning money by illegally grabbing the government lands.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating new PWD building at Bicholim recently. The new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore in the heart of the Bicholim town.

Also present on the occasion were PWD Minister Deepak Pawaskar, Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, BMC chairperson Rajaram Gaonkar, deputy chairperson Kundan Falari, chief engineer Uttam Parsekar and engineer Umesh Kulkarni.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that there are several government lands existing in Bicholim taluka and other parts of Goa including laterite stone mines and hence the government has decided to take the possession of such lands so that tourism can be boosted in rural areas to create employment opportunities. He also said such lands will be used to construct educational institutions. He said that government has started working on starting sustainable mining in the State that will last for next 20-25 years. "We have already started meeting to discuss the issue of sustainable mining in the State which will last for next 20-25 years," said the CM. The CM further added that whatever progress has been achieved is by BJP but the Congress Party has only created problems. He said no development work will be halted due to paucity of funds. He advised government servants to keep good relation with people and not to delay their works. He also called upon NGOs to provide their wholehearted co-operation to the government to undertake development.

Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said this is the first ownership building of PWD in Bicholim after 50 years and said other development works are likely to be completed very soon. PWD Minister Deepak Pawaskar said the government is planning to start 10 MLD mini water project at Sal, Bicholim in the month of May which will help to provide 10 hours continuous water per day to the people. He also said all the PWD offices will come under one roof in this building.
