Orange Alert continues as Goa sees heavy rains

Officials of the Panaji fire brigade said that they received only two 'calls' from the state during Monday which were regarding minor incidents in Khandepar and Panaji.

Goa has experienced varying amounts of rain throughout the day on Monday. Rains were heavy throughout the night and also during the day which has created many problems for the citizens. Officials have urged the citizens to be vigilant.

About 18.5 mm of rain was recorded from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Hence, the Orange Alert remains in place in the state even on Tuesday. It also rained in Pernem, Sattari, Valpoi and Sanquelim on Monday. It rained 30.0 mm in Mapusa from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, 20.5 mm in Old Goa, 23.0 mm in Panaji,  19.5 mm in Pernem,13.5 mm in Canacona and 6.5 mm in Margao. 

Due to the formation of low-pressure belts in the Bay of Bengal, Goa is expected to experience heavy rainfall. However, it takes time for it to take effect in the state. But even after midnight on Tuesday, the orange alert will remain in the state in response to the torrential rains.

Officials of the Panaji fire brigade said that they received only two 'calls' from the state during Monday which were regarding minor incidents in Khandepar and Panaji. The authorities had altered the emergency services to be ready in light of heavy rainfall.
