VASCO: South Western Railway (SWR), Hubballi Division ran a parcel train between Vasco da Gama and Diwana which carried processed food items even as railway are running goods trains and parcel express trains to ensure supply of essential commodities across the country during lockdown. A press release by the SWR stated that Railway is committed to ensure the supply of essential commodities like food, medicines etc to meet the requirements of citizens. Train Vasco da Gama-Howrah Parcel Express special via Hubballi, Gadag, Koppal, Hosapete, Ballari, Guntakal and Vijayawada was run on Saturday. It carried a total 13.29 tonnes of commodities to Howrah loaded from Hubballi Division including 1.89 tonnes commodities from Vasco da Gama, 4.55 tonnes of commodities from Hubballi, 6.7 tonnes of commodities from Hosapete. These commodities comprised of iced fish, dry fish, dry ginger, chilli powder, medicines etc, the press release stated. "The advantage of these Parcel Express trains is that there is no minimum limit of load or goods to be carried. Small consignments can also be transported. These Parcel Express are useful for transportation of essential commodities like food items, medicines, Perishables etc. As these parcel express run with scheduled time-table, the commodities will be delivered to destination in time," the press release added.
