The 5th edition of the Bird Festival of Goa is scheduled to take place on December 16 and 17, 2021, at the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Chorao, Goa. The festival has been organised by the Forest Department and the Goa Bird Association, and includes a host of lectures on both days as well as bird watching. Additional Principal Conservator of Forests, Santosh Kumar, has invited bird lovers to register online so as to participate in the event.

During this festival, the name of the State butterfly will also be revealed following consultations with over 100 scientists. One butterfly will be selected out of five, which have been shortlisted ie, Commander, Clipper, Malabar Tree Nymph, Common Jezebel and Blue Oakleaf.

Earlier this month, bird watching sessions had been organised in various parts of the state, wherein bird lovers had the opportunity to observe a variety of birds at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Netravali Sanctuary, Mollem, Mhadei, Cotigao Sanctuary, Sakura, Verna, Divar Island and Curtorim.

This is the fifth year that the festival is being organised, with pre-festival events aimed at attracting more bird lovers to the fest. A registration link has been set up on the website for the festival, which takes place on December 16 and 17, 2021, with various activities in Chodan, Karmali, Divar Island and Agassaim Kandalvan.
