The Association of Friends of Astronomy (Goa) is organising a viewing of a special phenomenon of the planet mercury through telescopes at Miramar beach and Colva beach on December 21, 2022.

Mercury is the smallest planet of the solar system and is practically hidden in the haze of the sun. It can only be viewed in bright twilight. Such an occasion will occur on December 21, 2022 and will be visible in Western India, including Goa.

What is special about the phenomenon this year is that Mercury will also be in conjunction with Venus, and, both events coincide with the winter solstice (longest night of the year & the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere) on December 21, 2022
