The festival of fruits is back in Goa!

The much anticipated festival of the summer, where one gets a rare chance to touch, feel and also taste some hyper local fruits of Goa is here! Yes, it is time for the Konkan Fruit Fest, which will be held from May 13, 2022 to May 15, 2022 at the Mandovi riverside promenade, along Dayanand Bandodkar Marg opposite ESG/INOX, Panjim, from 10 am till 8 pm. The inauguration will be held on May 13 at 11 am.

It is facilitated by the Botanical Society of Goa and the Corporation of the City of Panaji as festival partner. The Directorate of Agriculture, Agricultural Universities, NGOs and many other government agencies will be collaborators for the event.

“The Konkan Fruit Fest has been organised with the aim of celebrating and promoting the local fruits of Goa and the Konkan region. Fresh fruits and potted fruit plants will be on display. Nursery plants, processed fruit products, manure and other agricultural essentials will be on sale by individual vendors and private companies,” says Liza Pinheiro, organising secretary of KFF 2022.

FESTIVAL SCHEDULE

This year, the Konkan Fruit Fest will begin with the receipt of fresh fruits (four to five fruits of mango, chickoo, cashew, carambola, love apple etc; 5 or 6 bulbs of jackfruit, single fruit of pineapple, papaya etc; and at least a dozen berries per entry) on May 12, 2022 from 10 am to 3 pm. For assistance, please contact the Zonal Agriculture Officer of your taluka.

There are no entry fees and competition is open to all. The entries will be judged by experts who have a professional background in agriculture. Three winners will be selected from each category and cash prizes along with certificates will be given on May 13, 2022 in the evening.

On the inaugural day, May 13, 2022, entries will be received for processed fruit products (juices, squashes, wines, jams, pickles, cakes, chutney, souffles, jellies etc.) from 10 am till 3 pm.

Competitions like Fruit-Vegetable Carving, Flower Arrangement and some spots activities in the morning and, prize distribution, live music and entertainment will be held in the evening.

On May 14, 2022, a new competition has been introduced this year ie Potted Fruit Plants. It is open to all and plant entries will be accepted by 10 am. Judging will be based on the criteria of fruit health, plant health and overall appearance. The plants will be kept for display on the competition day and the following day.

Along with this, other competitions such as fruit eating competition, fancy dress competition will be also held. Three winners from each competition will be selected and prize distribution will be held in the evening.

On the concluding day, May 15, 2022, there will be Drawing Competition for children and spot activities like ‘Guess the fruit weight’ will be held. The closing ceremony will be at 5 pm.
