The Xavier Centre for Historical Research (XCHR), Porvorim, is organising the launch of the book, The Jesuits, Goa and the Arts (by Rinald D’Souza, SJ, and Anthony da Silva, SJ, with photographs by David de Souza) on October 21, 2023.
The chief guest at the event will be Councillor to the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Fr John Dardis, SJ.
The book describes the melange of faith, creativity and imagination in 16th - 18th century Goa which led to the ‘Modo Goano’ style, shaped by the European Jesuits and the Goan community.
It also sheds light on a bygone era with Jesuit-inspired art and architecture that continues to dot Goa’s landscape today.
