BJP is set to suffer another setback as its Mayem MLA Praveen Zantye will resign from the Assembly ahead of the 2022 Goa polls.

Praveen Zantye. who won the Mayem constituency with 12, 430 votes in the 2017 Assembly elections, will join Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).

Zantye's chances of getting a BJP ticket from Mayem were slim after BJP inducted MGP's probable candidate for Mayem, Premendra Shet, into its fold in December.

Zantye will become the fourth BJP MLA to quit the party.

The Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Goa on February 14.
