Senior BJP leader and former Siolim MLA Dayanand Mandrekar

Senior BJP leader and former Siolim MLA Dayanand Mandrekar kicked off his election campaign at Oxel, Siolim, on Sunday.

Although BJP has not announced the candidate for Siolim, Mandrekar is confident of getting the party ticket. "I am sure BJP ticket will give me the opportunity to contest from here as there is no other option," he said.

Taking a dig at former BJP minister Michael Lobo, Mandrekar said, "Siolim has been developed in true sense during the BJP's tenure, so the allegations made by the opposition that Siolim is deprived of development is misleading," he said.

"No matter how much the Lobo couple swears at Siolim, people will not bring such opportunistic people closer to power," he added.

Earlier, while campaigning in Siolim MLA Michael Lobo and his wife Delilah Lobo had claimed that Siolim needs to be developed. Parra sarpanch Delilah Lobo is all set to contest from Siolim.

Siolim BJP Mandal President Mohan Dabhale said, "BJP is not campaigning for the party by bringing in hired people so the victory of BJP candidate Dayanand Mandrekar from Siolim in the coming assembly elections is inevitable."

Siolim ZP member Sanisha Toraskar, Anjuna's ZP Niharika Mandrekar, former group president Narayan Mandrekar, BJP Youth president Sameer Mandrekar and social activist Pritesh Chodankar and among others were present on the occasion.
