Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday, January 7, accused the Narendra Modi-led government of failing to implement proper policies and allocate a fair share of the budget for the education sector.
"One-tenth of the budget should be given to the education sector to take the education sector forward. But this government has not taken it seriously," said Kanhaiya Kumar.
He was speaking at the 'Yuva Spandan' program organised by the Congress in Margao. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, NSUI National President Neeraj Kundan, NSUI Goa State President Naushad Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
Interacting with the students, Kanhaiya Kumar said that the student community should introspect where this government is taking the country.
"The party-changing MLAs are undermining our democracy and depriving us of our rights for selfish ends," he said.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bought aircraft worth Rs 8,500 crore and vehicles worth Rs 16 crore.
Kahanaiya said there is a need to save the foundation of democracy. "We all need to introspect on the fact that a party which did not take part in India's freedom struggle will never work for the national interest. We have to get rid of the tendency to sell this nation to its capitalist friends," Kumar said.
NSUI national president Neeraj Kundan said the BJP's policies were anti-student. "The government is selling everything and privatizing it. BJP is responsible for unemployment and all the problems facing the country,"
"The Modi government has not given a single rupee of relief to the student community during the Covid-19 Pandemic. They failed to solve the students' problems," Kundan said.
He further said that universities should reduce fees as students sit for online classes. "But the government has failed to provide that relief. The BJP government is more concerned with the capitalist friends than the students,” he said.
He appealed to the students to support Congress and bring about change in Goa.
Digambar Kamat said that youth power has an important role to play in the Assembly elections as the BJP government has increased unemployment.
“The youth here are migrating to other states and nations in search of jobs. That shouldn't happen. But this is happening because the government has failed to create jobs. ” Kamat said.
He said that BJP is selling jobs and the Congress government needs to be brought to power for transparency
