A car dumping construction debris by the roadside next to the open fields in Calangute was caught in the act red-handed. Calangute Panchayat seized the vehicle and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the car owner.

Calangute Panchayat on Thursday intercepted a car and caught the driver red-handed while he was dumping the debris from a Nagao construction site along a roadside field at Porba Vaddo, Calangute.

The incident came to light after a local and former panch member Eknath Salgaonkar noticed the driver stopping his car and dumping the debris in his field.

Salgaonkar then reported this incident to the Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira who rushed to the spot and halted the illegal activity. The sarpanch questioned the driver of the vehicle about the origin of the debris. The driver responded that the debris was from a construction site located in Nagoa.

The sarpanch along with the panchayat secretary Arjun Velip contacted the owner of the construction site and told him to come to the debris dumping site. The Calangute Panchayat along with heavy police protection issued a fine of Rs 25,000 to the owner and requested him to immediately remove the debris from the site.

Meanwhile, Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira told reporters, “We came to know that the debris was brought from a construction site located at Nagoa and dumped in Calangute. We will not tolerate such illegal dumping of debris in the fields, and I will continue to act sternly on such illegal activities by imposing fines.”
