VALPOI: The forest department on Tuesday gave compensation of Rs 15.000 to each of the two families, whose cattle was killed by tigers at Golavli village in Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in Sattari taluka. Deputy Conservator Of Forest (DCF) Kuldeep Sharma disbursed compensation cheque of Rs 15,000 each to Vitho Pawane family (received by his wife Gangi Pawane) of Golavli village and the farmer Ladko Jadhav from Derode-Sattari. The compensation amount was released through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Tiger had killed a cow belonging to Vitho Pawane on December 20, who complained to forest department. Earlier, no compensation was given to the family which might have forced the accused to poison the tigers leading to killing of entire family of the wild cat. In the second incident on January 1 this year, a buffalo belonging to Ladko Jadhav was killed by a tiger at Derode-Sattari. The matter was reported to the forest officials, who assured him that compensation will be given soon after receiving the report from the veterinary doctors.
The DCF also met aged mother of Vitho Pawane and asked about her wellbeing. The cheque was given in the presence of range forest officer (RFO) of Valpoi range, Dongurli-Thane sarpanch Prajita Gawas and other panchyat members.
