On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant announced that the foundation stone and construction of Ambedkar Bhavan will start this year.
He said that people have been demanding the Bhavan for a very long time. “They want to have it in a place like Porvorim. And, keeping that in mind, during our last tenure, we were in talks with the Social Welfare Department; they wanted us to lay the foundation stone now, but we want to float a tender for the same," said Sawant.
He assured the people that the foundation stone along with the commencement of work will take place this year. “Our objective is to provide fair and equal rights and opportunities to the marginalized section of society and meet their needs," he said.
He also said that the Social Welfare Minister, Subhash Phaldessai, and his team will work towards taking the schemes to the people, so that they can reach every citizen.
During the function Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Award was given to 5 awardees who contributed to the improvement of the lives of the oppressed classes.
