The situation in Sanguem remained tense for the second consecutive day on Tuesday with the arrest of a person protesting against the IIT project, while warrants have been issued against three others.

They arrested Joseph Fernandes from Dando-Sanguem under section 186 (obstructing public servant in the discharge of his public function).

Warrants have been issued against Philip Vaz, Maria Vaz and Swizelle Cruz. Police are on the lookout for them.

Sanguem women stop police from reaching IIT site

The police have now started sending summons and are registering offences against the protesters who attempted to stop the Sanguem Mamlatdar and officers of the Survey Department from undertaking the marking of the proposed site for the IIT project at Cortalim-Sanguem on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Gomantak Times repeatedly tried to contact Quepem DySP Nilesh Rane and PI Vinayak Patil of Sanguem Police Station to know about the law and order situation at the site, but both of them were unavailable.
