VASCO: The South Western Railway (SWR) on Friday suspended a railway staff, attached to the Vasco railway station following reports that the staff allegedly brought some people from neighbouring States to Goa and kept them in the railway quarters at the Driver Hill, Vasco.
When contacted, Vasco railway station manager Ramdas Gudamane confirmed that the staffer Khalid Ahmed Irani has been placed under suspension pending inquiry into the alleged incident.
"Presently an enquiry is on to find out whether the people arrived in Goa and were living in railway quarters at Drivers' Hill, Vasco," Gudamane said.
The Vasco police had also taken congisance of the reports and arrested the staff holding him responsible for bringing the people to Goa in a goods train during lockdown.
According to Vasco SDPO Raju Raut Dessai, the police also visited the railways quarters at Drivers Hill on Thursday and conducted inspection even as some of the residents complained that the people from Hubbali, Karnataka were residing in the railway quarters and fled after they raised protests.
The police are trying to find out the details of the people who were brought to Goa by the alleged staff, who is learnt to have maintained that those who were residing in the railway quarters were railway staff from Caste Rock area, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka.
