Captain Deepraj Gaonkar saved the team from trouble with Kerala . On the strength of his century (114), Goa recovered on the first day of the Col. C K Naidu Trophy (Under-25) cricket match.

At the end of the first day of the Alur, Bangalore match on Tuesday, Goa scored 296 for 6 in the first innings. Soham Panvalkar is unbeaten on 51 not out. He and Deepraj shared a 100-run stand for the sixth wicket. Earlier, Deepraj shared a 87-run stand for the fifth wicket with Tunish Saavkar to strengthen Goa's innings at 81 for four.

Deepraj hit a chauffeur while batting brilliantly on Tuesday. With 4.5 overs left in the day, his batting came to an end. Basil traps him. Deepraj scored 114 off 185 balls with the help of four sixes and 14 fours. Deepraj was well supported by Tunish (30), so Kerala was able to wrap up Goa early. Soham, who was unbeaten at the end of the day, hit seven fours and a six off 110 balls.

Slippery after a good start

Kerala won the toss and elected to bat in Goa on Tuesday morning. Starting positive, Ishaan Gadekar (21) and Vaibhav Govekar (37) gave Goa a 48-run opening stand. However, Goa lost three wickets for 20 runs. Shrihari Nair broke the opening pair by dismissing Ishaan. After a two-run lead, Akhil Scaria dismissed Vaibhav and Manthan Khutkar (10) to add to Goa's woes.

Later, Vishwambar Kahlon (8) was dismissed for a wicket by Srihari, which raised concerns in the Goa team.
