Former Delhi batsman Krishnan Pillai has been appointed as the new coach of the Goa Men’s senior cricket team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season by the association. Vipul Phadke, Goa Cricket Association (GCA) secretary, said that Coach Bhaskar took charge on Friday and will conduct his first team meeting with the squad on Saturday. 

Pillai has been around the coaching ever since his retirement in 2007. He became a level B coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in 2011. So far, Pillai’s coaching career has taken him around the country to Delhi, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Tripura. The Uttarakhand team, he coached, reached the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy in their debut season (2018-19 season). Under his tutelage, Delhi won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 in the 2017-18 season and was the runners-up in the Ranji Trophy. Coach Pillai also was the batting consultant at the NCA in Bangalore.

In the build to the 2021-22 Ranji season, the GCA retained guest cricketer and wicketkeeper Eknath Kerkar in the squad. With Kerkar, Goa will sign two more guest players for the upcoming season. Mumbai all-rounder Shubham Ranjane has submitted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and could be part of the Goa squad accordion to Phadke.
