Former champions Salgaocar FC registered their first victory in the 2021-22 Goa Pro League against Calangute Association at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Wednesday.
Salgaocar’s Daryl Costa scored the only goal of the game in the first half of the match.
The Greens started the match with great energy and came very close to scoring just in the second minute. Defender Stephen Alvares sent out a great cross for Daryl Costa but Calangute keeper Presley came out of the box to clear the shot.
Calangute also had a chance in the 19th minute that was blocked away by the Salgaocar gloveman. Then in the 33rd minute, Daryl Costa finally scored as he chipped the ball over to the keeper to score to put Salgaocar ahead. The intensity was high throughout the remaining first half as both teams were playing attacking football.
In the second half, Calangute started strong with relentless aggression but couldn’t convert any chances. They had their last opportunity in the 72nd minute but Greens defender Saurabh Patil made a timely clearance.
Now Salgaocar FC is placed fourth on the league table with one win and one draw whereas Calangute Association is 11th with two losses in two games.
