PUNE: The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHCET) went off smoothly in the city and across the State on Thursday, unlike the controversial National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) a few days ago.

Around 96 per cent students of 3.89 lakh registered students from across the State appeared for MHCET for engineering and pharmacy admissions. The exam took place in 36 districts and 1,110 centres on Thursday.

There were 42,000 students who took the exam at 99 centres in the city. Parents and students had assembled at their respective centres one and half hours before time to avoid the hassle that students faced during NEET on May 7.

According to students, the exam went uneventfully.

“Physics was lengthy and maths paper was little difficult, but otherwise, the exam was fine. Most of the questions were known and I was able to attempt all of them,” said Jyotsana Dammu from Kamalnayan Bajaj Junior College in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“Overall, the paper was easy and good. I did not find any questions unknown and very difficult to attempt. Also, I had finished my paper in time and got some time to recheck my answers as well,” said Swapnil Sen from SNBP Junior College of Arts, Commerce and Science.

“Chemistry was the easiest one. I took more time to solve the physics section than any other section,” said Pravin Zinjarde of P Jog Junior College of Science and Commerce in Kothrud centre.

EXPERTS’ ANALYSIS The experts in their analysis have stated that the paper this year was better than the previous year. “Physics and Chemistry both for 50 marks have to be solved within 90 minutes, therefore, the students have to write two subjects in a limited time frame. Maths is for 50 marks and of 90 minutes so students got ample of time to solve it. Physics was lengthy this time whereas, Maths was lengthier the previous year. Chemistry was easy,” said Director of IITian’s Prashikshan Kendra, Durgesh Mangeshkar. “The exam went off smoothly without any unwanted disruptions across the State and the exam was conducted well within the time. The results are most likely to be declared by June 4,” said Joint Director of Directorate of Technical Education, Dayanand Meshram.
