Goa dominates on the first day of the All India Masters Badminton Championships

Goa's badminton players dominate on the first day of the All India Masters Badminton Championships. The tournament kicked off on Sunday at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.

In the men's singles, Philip Barboza of Goa defeated Milind Deshmukh of Maharashtra 21-12, 17-21, 21-7 to reach the semifinals. Philip is the bronze medalist of the 2018 National Veterans Competition.

In the men's doubles, Kansio Mascarenhas and Peter Tallis advanced to the round of 16, after defeating Uttarakhand's Mohan Martolia and Navin Chandra 21-5, 21-13.

Goa's Tanaji Sawant recorded a stunning victory in the men's singles. In the semi-finals, he easily defeated Rabindranath Kalra of Haryana 21-6, 21-5.

In the doubles disciplines, Tanaji Sawant and Pradip Dhond defeated the second-seeded pair of Ashok Kumar and Anil Kumar Sondhi 23-21, 21-18. Now the Tanaji and Pradip have advanced to the semi-finals.

The All India Masters Badminton Championship will be considered as an audition for the BWF World Senior Badminton Championships to be held in Spain in November-December 2021.
