Human chain formed to save 'Mhadei Amchi Mai' in Goa

The human chain was formed along the banks of the River Mandovi on Saturday to raise awareness about the river

A human chain was formed along the banks of the River Mandovi on Saturday, May 20, 2023, to raise awareness about the river and to express solidarity in preserving the vital ecosystem of the river.

The human chain was the highlight of the Mhadei Amchi Mai festival, organised by the Earthivist Collective, in association with the Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG) and the Save Mhadei Save Goa Front in the wake of the ongoing attempts to divert water from the inter-state river’s basin.

The participants, dressed in blue and white, included local residents, activists and people from different walks of life.

Dr Oscar Rebello, Fr Bolmax Pereira, Hemaa Sardesai, Patricia Pinto, Dr Isabel Santa Rita Vaz, Claude Alvares, Norma Alvares, Pragya Bhagat, Salil Chaturvedi, Pournima Kerkar and many other noted personalities joined in the movement.

The festival also featured performances by musicians, dancers, storytellers and artists along the riverbank.
