When art saves a lifesaver, it turns into an exhibition in Goa

Ananyaa Bath is a female lifesaver and lifesaving instructor. And, when she’s not on Goa’s beaches, you’ll find her dabbling in art, some of which you can see at an exhibition at Da Tita By Magic Italy, Majorda

Every visitor to Goa has been to the beach, and the popular ones can get pretty crowded. Which means that the lifesavers on the beach need to be on high alert at all times, and that can get physically and mentally exhausting at times.

But, ever wonder if lifesavers have a life outside of saving lives?

Meet Ananyaa Bath, Goa's first female lifesaver. While she faces challenging days at the beach, she finds solace in her artistic creations on paper when she is at home.

Ananyaa, originally from Himachal Pradesh, discovered doodling as a way to escape the pressures of math class in school. Over the years, this art form has become her creative outlet, offering a peaceful escape from the demanding beach life.

Art, or doodling, began as an escape from mathematics in school for me — a feeling many can relate to. From bookmarks and birthday cards to notebooks filled with random sketches, my doodles slowly gathered admirers and recognition.

Hailing from the mountains to sail the seas, Ananyaa Bath, along with Da Tita's Surya Alice Minelli and Darayus Engineer, is hosting an Art Exhibition showcasing her doodling art at Da Tita By Magic Italy, starting December 15, 2024.

"Art, or doodling, began as an escape from mathematics in school for me — a feeling many can relate to. From bookmarks and birthday cards to notebooks filled with random sketches, my doodles slowly gathered admirers and recognition," says Ananyaa as she explains how it all began.

THINKING OUT OF THE BOX: Ananyaa loves to doodle after a long day at work.

“It’s said that ‘a rolling stone gathers no moss’. But, this doodler rolls on and on, straight into the sea,” she smiles.  The idea for the exhibition came to Ananyaa and Surya quite randomly while they were discussing the art scene in South Goa.

“We have always considered hosting events like this, but never managed to do it. So, we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to have an amazing artist such as Ananyaa to kick things off. She has amazing talent, and her story is so inspiring,” says Surya, as she arranges the artwork for the exhibition.

Ananyaa’s art is based on life, love and humans. What began as an escape from numbers soon multiplied reality into creativity.

“My art was a source of joy that became a road map to securing my sanity. It's taken a long time in the making, and finally, this pop-up session is here. And, what better place than Da Tita (in Majorda). The food here is fabulous, but it's really about Surya and Darayus — the reason I'm here doing this exhibition,” concludes Ananyaa.

So, if you want to check out Ananyaa’s work, head to Da Tita soon because the exhibition is on show only for one day.
