Goa is famous for its stunning beaches, but it’s the cosy beach shacks that truly capture the essence of the place. These aren’t just places to grab a bite — they offer an experience that perfectly mirrors the relaxed, carefree vibe of Goa’s coastline.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it's that feeling of pure joy that washes over you, making you feel at home in a place that’s both timeless and ever-evolving.

One such spot that embodies this magic is Slow Tide, located right on Anjuna’s shoreline.

For anyone seeking an authentic Goa experience, Slow Tide offers more than just a meal — it’s a journey into the heart of Goa's rich culture and diverse gastronomic influences.

“Slow Tide is not just a place to eat; it’s a cultural and culinary exploration,” says Neil, one of the owners. "We celebrate the fusion of the West Coast’s indigenous heritage and the deep colonial influences that have shaped this region over the centuries."

SEA VIEW: At Slow Tide, seating is never an problem.

This unique combination is woven into the food, ambience, and even the history behind the place, which tells the story of Anjuna of the 1970s — a time when Goa became a global destination for alternative lifestyles.

Slow Tide’s story begins with the iconic Anjuna Chai Shop, which later evolved into the beach shack we know today. While staying true to its roots, Slow Tide offers a contemporary twist, blending local elements and offering a warm, welcoming vibe.

The restaurant stands where the famous San Francisco Shack once stood, a hub for those who gathered to watch the sunrise and sunset, marking the beginning of Goa's bohemian culture.

Slow Tide also serves as a platform for the local community, featuring art, literature and music.

“We’ve designed a space where people can engage with creativity — whether it's through the art space or enjoying live music from local and international musicians on weekends,” Neil informs.

This commitment to celebrating local culture extends to the bar as well. Slow Tide offers a modern take on Goa’s drinking culture, with cocktails named after key figures in the State’s beverage history, like Sailor Fred and Acid Erik, each carrying its own story and legacy.

The menu highlights Goan cuisine and a variety of other dishes. For those seeking something different, Slow Tide also offers nutrient-packed smoothies, including hormone-balancing options based on the philosophy of Anthony William, the Medical Medium.

On the food, Neil says, “Our menu is a culinary tale that spans the West Coast — from the Portuguese bastion of Bassein in North Bombay (now Mumbai) to the shores of Sri Lanka. It reflects the diverse cultures, ethnic traditions, and colonial influences that have shaped this region.”

Slow Tide’s dishes are a reflection of this evolution, and each season brings its own signature dishes. In winter, try the Aloni Bhaat, in summer the Sasam Salad, and during the monsoons, indulge in the Kalchi Kodi Seafood Conjee.

These seasonal dishes are based on fresh, local produce and celebrate the flavours that shaped Neil’s own childhood.

With its contemporary design, curated by a celebrated Sri Lankan architect, the shack offers a modern, yet nostalgic, feel that elevates every visit.

Neil also emphasises the importance of sourcing ingredients from coastal regions that reflect the ethnic diversity of the menu. As you savour your meal with a breath-taking view of the Anjuna coastline, it’s clear that the experience at Slow Tide is designed to awaken all your senses.

To top it all off, weekends at Slow Tide are filled with vibrant energy as musicians from around the world perform, adding to the magic of Anjuna’s legendary sunsets. It’s a perfect blend of East and West, just as it was back in the day.

Slow Tide is more than just a restaurant — it’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the true spirit of Goa, combining rich history, vibrant culture, and mouth-watering food in one unforgettable location.
